Delgado would have been a bigger splash, but would probably have meant that either Floyd or Cameron would have had to go. Minky is coming off a bad year, but he’s an excellent first baseman with doubles power and good on base skills. He doesn’t hit as much as Keith Hernandez, who arrived in NY as a 29 year old, but the comparison isn’t totally screwy.
