Juan Uribe is out for two months, at least.

Reports are that Dan O’Dowd is in the market for a third baseman. That’s a market that right now pretty much includes Fernando Tatis and Shea Hillenbrand.

If I were Dan I’d stay the course. Let Chris Stynes and Greg Norton platoon at third, let Brent Butler and Ronnie Belliard battle it out at second, let Pablo Ozuna prove he belongs.

Uribe will be back in June, probably, but he may not be as good as hitter as Stynes, Butler or Belliard. He may well be a better shortstop. The bottom line right now is that Chris Stynes is, momentarily at least, a better pickup than he was before Uribe got hurt.

There’s a good chance the implications grow.
