Mat Olkin’s Baseball Examiner 2003

If you only know Mat Olkin from his pleasureable Mat at Bat column in Baseball Weekly and the occasional pieces he does there, you’re missing out on a fine book he puts out every year called Mat Olkin’s Baseball Examiner.

The book is full of choice tid-bits of analysis on all the young and up and coming major leaguers, presented with good humor and unfailing honesty. And in these times of NO STATS GREEN BOOK, Mat includes his complete 2002 MLEs, too, which makes it a very useful reference. (Though I would prefer it if they were organized alphabetically, rather than by team.)
